Official opening with “Shut Up and Play the Hits”

The official opening of Waves Vienna 2012 will take place at Gartenbaukino on Thursday, October 4th at 6.45 p.m. Right after that, the LCD Soundsystem documentary “Shut Up and Play the Hits” will be screened for the first time in Austria.

Already ahead of the release of the 2010 album “This Is Happening”, LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy had announced that the record would be the last one of his successful project. After an extensive tour around the globe, it was time to ring down the curtain at the height of the act’s popularity with a concert at Madison Square Garden on April 2nd 2011.

On this occasion, the two directors Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern accompanied James Murphy for two days. On the one hand, this film documents the grand fare-well spectacle in front of 18,000 euphoric fans, on the other hand, it provides deep insight into the thoughts of the anti-star James Murphy on the difficult day after the concert. The film reveals reasons for the end of one of the most influential bands of the last decade. A small piece of pop history of the most recent past.

Tickets for the opening and the film screening are available in the Waves Vienna ticket shop for € 7. The film will be shown in the original English version and there will be free choice of seating.
